Obituary for Jessie L. Moseley
Jessie Moseley was born in Wild Cherry, Arkansas on May 12, 1928, the third of three children of Allen and Bernice Taylor and passed away on November 24, 2017 in Fresno, California. Her husband, RL Moseley, her brothers, Lowell and Coy and her parents, Allen and Bernice, precede Jessie in death. Her children Roger and Janet, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive her.
Jessie moved to California with her family in the early 1940’s to begin a new life in California escaping… the hardships of farming a difficult piece of land in the Ozarks. Her father Allen took a job at Wasco High School as a janitor, a job he held until his retirement. Jessie’s mother, Bernice, remained at home caring for the family for the remainder of her life.
Jessie attended and graduated from Wasco High School in 1947, met RL and they married shortly thereafter in Reno, Nevada. Within two years, Roger was born and two years later Janet was born, both in Wasco.
While RL worked as a diesel mechanic at Kern County Equipment Company, Jessie worked for many years at the Western Auto Store in Wasco. Jessie was known in the community as someone who knew her merchandise well and was eager to help. Whether the item was in stock or needed to be ordered from the warehouse, Jessie was always willing to do what was needed to satisfy her customers. She told many stories of her helping people find exactly what they wanted, and the children of many of those customers became her customers as well.
While working full time most of her life, Jessie was a devoted mother and homemaker who always found the time to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for her family, do all of their laundry and keep the house clean and comfortable. She even found the time to hand sew clothes for everyone, including pants, shirts and dresses for her children and husband.
Jessie was also an outstanding cook whose Thanksgiving dinners were not to be missed. She was also a great pie and cake maker and was always ready to make everyone’s favorite dessert.
Throughout her life, Jessie loved and cherished her family, her friends and neighbors. She was never happier than spending the Christmas holiday cooking, baking and spending time with her family, telling the many stories she had of her life and especially those involving people and the experiences she’d had with them.
