Obituary for Wilford Dee Bolin

Wilford “Dee” Bolin, age 92, passed away in Bakersfield on November 26, 2018. Dee was born in Kennett, Missouri to Frank and Chattie Bolin.

Dee moved out from Missouri as a teenager and met his wife Betty. They lived in Wasco where they raised their three sons, Barry, Randy and Mark. He became a union carpenter and proudly worked at Valley Steel for many decades until his retirement nearly 40 years ago. He was known for his carpentry skills and his pride and joy was his beach home in… Cayucos that he designed and built by himself (and some trustworthy friends) which he completed in 1976. Dee loved retirement mainly because it meant that he could pick up his granddaughters from school and treat them to a candy bar on the ride home.

Dee was always busy working on projects to keep himself busy during retirement. Even when his hands were not strong enough to do the work himself, he was very good at instructing his sons and grandson how to get it done “the right way”. Dee enjoyed a good parade and rarely missed a Wasco Rose Parade or a 4th of July parade in Cayucos where he took pleasure in driving his Model A.

We will miss Papa Dee’s great sense of humor and all the good times and laughs we shared with him.

Dee is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Chattie; wife Betty Bolin; brother Jim Bolin; and his son Barry Bolin. He is survived by his sons Randy of Wasco; Mark and wife Jody of Bakersfield; sister Rochelle Banister of Woodburn, OR; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
