Obituary

Robert L. Hall

Robert Lee Hall 95, passed away peacefully in his home and is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Robert was the oldest of 3 children born to Fred Hall and Mayme McElroy Hall in the small town of Keota Oklahoma on June 11, 1925.

In May of 1944, Robert (Bob) was called to bravely serve his country in World War II in Rhineland Central Europe. He served with honor and courage as an Army Sergeant of the 59th Armored Infantry as a Medium Tank Crewman / Combat Infantryman. Bob earned two Bronze Stars during his service and he even participated in the occupation forces that took control of Hitler’s personal hideaway called, “The Eagles Nest”. Bob epitomized the title of “The Greatest Generation.” They just don’t make many quite like Robert Hall these days! He loved this country and was humbled by the opportunity later in life to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

After being honorably discharged in 1946, Bob and a friend moved from Oklahoma to Wasco, Ca. where he found work at a local grocery store. It was there that he met a young lady patron by the name of Lois Atkinson. The two courted and were later married in 1949. In 1953, Bob went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Wasco as a counter clerk and later became the Superintendent of Postal Services until he retired in 1981 following 28 years of service.

Bob was a kind upstanding Christian man whose faith was very important to him. He was beloved by his congregation in Wasco and later the Highland Church of Christ where he enjoyed leading singing for many years. Bob was very humble and independent. He took care of business and never wanted to be a burden to anyone! He was known for his friendly, easy going personality, quick wit, and positive attitude. Some of Bob’s favorite pastimes were keeping his home impeccable and planting a vegetable garden every year where he grew some of the best tomatoes in town. He would even make raisins on his rooftop! Bob loved to stay busy and sometimes joined his talented wife Lois for oil painting classes. They also made a Grandfathers clock together in a woodworking class offered by the high school. One of their favorite restaurants was Mexicali West where they enjoyed many meals with friends and family.

Bob was preceded in death by Lois; the love of his life for 65 years, both parents, and his brother Vernon Hall. He is survived by his sister Peggy Reinhardt of Cleburne, TX., his sister-in-law Bernice Atkinson of Bakersfield, his brother-in-law Tim Atkinson, and wife Edna of Hanford and numerous nieces and nephews spread all over the U.S.
