Obituary for Donnie Gary Campbell

On October 15, 2017, Donnie Campbell, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, was called home to be with God. Words cannot express the family's deep sorrow at Donnie’s passing. He was cherished and admired for his love, care and concern for not only his family, but many friends and service to his community. Born on April 21, 1937, Don was raised in Famoso, CA and attended elementary and high school in McFarland, CA. He graduated from Fresno State University and pursued several careers… – in teaching, coaching, bookkeeping, politics, preaching, radio show host and restaurateur. He often recounted with happiness his many experiences. How to describe Donnie – if you met him, you never forgot it. One family member said he was Elvis and Jesus in a cowboy suit. Don had charisma and conviction like no one else – that cowboy hat he wore in later years is testimony to that. He had a fabulous sense of humor he shared with you whether you understood or not and the man could tell stories. Don never met a stranger. He will be missed so much.
The family remembers and honors Don’s many years of public service. He served as Mayor of McFarland, on the McFarland City Council and a variety of high level board of directors. A terrific athlete in high school, he enjoyed basketball, track and baseball and set a few records in McFarland with his brothers, Bow, Joey and Johnnie. We will best remember Don for his strong faith and very special love for his wife of 58 years, Sharon; son, Bobby Glen; and daughter, Destiney. He loved his all of his family, especially his granddaughters, Victoria, Veronika, Ally; great granddaughters, Kayla, Anaya, Jacqueline; and great grandson, Vincent. Don is also survived by his sisters in law, Carol Campbell and Ramona Campbell; and sister, Diana Campbell Rice and husband, Thad; as well many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 23, 2017 beginning at 2:00pm at Wasco Memorial Park in Wasco, CA.
For all of us who loved and cherished Donnie – “Adios brother”, we will see you again. We can only imagine what it is like in heaven today with all the Campbell boys reunited.
