Obituary for Alice Marjorie Greenwalt
Alice Marjorie Greenwalt passed into glory at the age of 93 on Sunday night, January 1, 2017 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Alice was born in Wanette, Oklahoma to William and Maude Bergeron the twelfth of 14 children
She graduated high school at age 17 from Shawnee High School. She loved the Lord and served with her husband in churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, California and Germany.
Her written testimony reads: “I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of 9 years during a revival… meeting at Eagle Baptist Church and baptized soon thereafter. While attending Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee, I met Adolph Greenwalt when he came to my home to plan a Cottage Revival, in which 12 of my neighbors accepted Christ. Then months later on January 24, 1941, we were married by our pastor, Tom Wiles. Adolph preceded me in death February 13, 1995, three weeks after our 54th wedding anniversary.”
According to Alice’s own words, here priorities were: (1) God’s will for my life, (2) family and church, and (3) to do my best and pray for God to the do the rest. Her motto with Adolph was: “Each for the other and both for the Lord.” She taught Sunday School classes for 75 years, as well leading out in many other ministries in church and denominational work. The highlights of her life were centered on ministry, family and life-long friends. She also wrote: “If I have accomplished anything worthwhile in my lifetime, it is because I was just an ordinary woman with a great God.”
Alice and Adolph had seven children. Truett, the oldest, precede her in death in 1997. She is survived by six children and their spouses (David and Meche Greenwalt, Marti and Bill Roberts, Galen and Sondra Greenwalt, Noel and Janice Greenwalt, John and Cathy Greenwalt, Roger and Julie Greenwalt); 15 grandchildren and their families; 30 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
