Exito Vargas Villalpando

Exito Villalpando was born March 2, 1929 in Jerome, Arizona to Julia (Vargas) and Victor Villalpando. Exito and his sister, Angelita (Torres) came to Wasco in 1946 and he met his future wife Julia Ramirez. Shortly after arriving he began his 36-year career with Wasco Concrete. He was known to the farmers and all his friends as “Papa”. After retirement, he volunteered many hours at the St. John’s Thrift Store and worked part-time for Tom Fox. Papa enjoyed Dodgers Baseball, going deep sea fishing, cooking menudo and potatoes with chorizo.
Exito married Julia Ramirez on June 29, 1950 and was a loving and wonderful husband to Julia, always taking care of her, treating her like a queen. His children were blessed to have him as a father. He supplied their needs, taught them good work ethics and the value of an education because he was a self-educated man. Papa was self-giving person, ready to put others before himself.
Exito is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia Villalpando; children, Hector and wife Linda, Mary Ellen Ortiz and husband Miguel, Sammy Villalpando and wife Mary, Theresa Alvarez and husband Max, David Villalpando and wife Emily, Danny Villalpando and wife Robin; and 62 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, all because two people fell in love.
Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 21 at 6pm at St. John’s Church for Exito Vargas Villalpando, age 86 of Wasco who passed away January 19, 2016 at home with his family by his side. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated, Friday, January 22, at 10am at St. John’s Church. Fr. Raul Sanchez, and Fr. John Fluetsch will officiate the services and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will begin Thursday at 4pm at the church.
