Obituary for Joe C. Serda

Joe C. Serda of Wasco, CA died peacefully Thursday morning, October 9, 2008 at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital. Joe was born March 4, 1921 in Upland, California. He served in the U.S. Army, enlisted November 9, 1942 at National City, Ca. He served with the 316th Engineer Battalion as a utility repairman earning decorations Joe C. Serda of Wasco, Ca. died peacefully Thursday morning, October 9,, 2008 at the such as the American Campaign medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal and… the Victory medal. Joe was honorably discharged April 12, 1944. Joes met his lovely and devoted wife Nellie Bernal at a dance in the local town of Delano. On December 22, 1945 shortly after the war they were married at St. Johns Catholic Church in Wasco, Ca. during the late 60’s early 70’s Joe managed a very successful Mexican American baseball league team under Joe’s strong leadership and coaching, the Wasco Bee’s won (3) three league championship in the kern county area. During the 70’s and 80’s Joe was a loyal contract labor supervisor working for Mr. Raymond Delgado and Mr. Isidro Arrambide in the Wasco area. Joe was preceded in death by his brother Juan Lopez, Al Serda, Raymond Serda, Louis Serda and his sister Dolores Maldonado and a great granddaughter Devan Marie Serda. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Nellie; son Manuel Serda of Morro Bay, Ca.; his daughter Maria Peck of Paso Robles, Ca. Joe also leaves behind (9) nine grandchildren, Manuel Jr., Carlos, Michael, Daniel, Veronica, and Eric Serda and Donald Joseph, Tara and Teresa Peck; (19) nineteen great grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Bailey, Brady, Lauryn, Ayla, Evie, Kadence, Devan Serda, Brock Rushing, Haedon and Rheagan Kaufman, Penny, Petra Lou and Rachael Cross, McKenzie Gaskin, and Brittany Derrington. Joe will be remembered for the love and devotion he had for his wife Nellie, hard work, and sense of humor and funny stories about fishing. He will greatly missed by all who knew him. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 7pm at St. Johns Catholic Church in Wasco. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at 10am at St. Johns Catholic Church in Wasco. Father John Fluetsch will officiate the service and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park
