Obituary

Mary Ellen Rexius

Mary Ellen Rexius was born in Alton, Missouri, to Charles and Pearl (Blakley) Boyd. She was educated in Missouri schools and taught elementary school there for seven years. In 1947, she answered an advertisement in a Memphis, Tennessee, newspaper recruiting teachers for Kern County. She took the train to Wasco and always joked that she arrived that August, on the hottest day of the year. She taught third grade in Wasco until 1954.
In December of 1949, she met Ray Rexius on a blind date, and they were married on June 1,1950. A few years later in January 1955, they welcomed son Michael and to their delight in 1982, grandson Jacob joined the family.
Through the years Mary Ellen helped Ray at Rexius Studio and participated in Mike’s activities. She was also involved in many community clubs and activities.
Ray passed away in 1999, and Mike followed in 2015. She is survived by her grandson Jacob and his wife Johanna as well as a multitude of dear friends all of whom she loved and cherished.
A memorial service celebrating her long and glorious life will take place Friday, June 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Grace Community Church, 1544 7th Street, in Wasco.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Wasco Community Scholarship Association, P.E.O. Chapter JT, or to a charity of your choice.
