Obituary for Josie Maria Hernandez
Josie was born in Bakersfield, California on June 19th, 1968 to Lupe Maria Miranda and John Bautista Miranda. She was the oldest of four children and was a wonderful sister to her sisters Maria Cecilia Mendez and Juanita Ann Miranda and to her brother Ray Jose Miranda. She attended Highland High School and graduated in 1987. Josie worked at a Kid’s Castle, run by Memorial Hospital, which she loved and spoke of often. While attending Bakersfield Collage she met the love of her life, John Hernandez,… who she dated for six years before they married on October 2, 1993 and moved to Wasco, California. Josie became a home-maker shortly after and on November 13th, 1996, Josie and John had their first child, Michael Anthony Hernandez and on February 2, 1999 they had their second child, Sabrina Elizabeth Hernandez. Both of her children played sports and Josie and John would try to never miss a game. It was at these games where she made many friends and memories. Some of Josie’s favorite things to do were to travel. She loved the view atop the Space Needle in Seattle Washington. She enjoyed visiting all of the 21 remaining California Missions. She also loved the beach, with her favorite beach being in Morro Bay. She also enjoyed visiting National State Parks. Josie loved being outdoors and would often sit outside with her husband, just to enjoy the night sky. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reminiscing about precious childhood memories and recalling on stories that would sometimes feature her best friend, Jennifer Jackson Stevens. Josie was an amazing artist and was incredibly crafty. Josie was selfless. If you needed a hug, she would hug you. If you were hungry, she would feed you. If you needed to talk, she would listen. She had a tremendous amount of love for her family. Josie died at Mercy Southwest Hospital on January 10, 2016 with her husband by her side after having fought her cancer for over a year. Before Josie passed, she was able to say her goodbyes to the majority of her family including her two children and husband as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father John Bautista Miranda. Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 2pm to 8pm with the rosary at 6pm, at Peters Funeral Home (844 E. Lerdo Hwy Shafter, CA). Mass will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe church (601 E.
